
Working on the appearance of a new product, make it perfectly fit into the existing product line

THE CHALLENGE
The brand – XiaoMi is adding a new facial device to their existing product series.
It’s essential that a brand product maintains an aesthetic consistency. Therefore, it is important to study about the overall style of their brand in order to create a facial device that not only looks good but make them in a consistent style which is easily recognised by customers.
THE OUTCOME
A minimalist design approach with mild details was applied to the product with low-gloss white color to provide a down-to-earth feeling that fit for the image of the item and also the brand.

Understand the brand market position
Consumers perceive different brand by their brand image or product style. Even in the same categories, brands will position themselves differently and giving out a unique identity in order to catch the eyeball of the target group.
We had lookup on popular online shopping platform in China and list out the most famous facial device on the market for comparison.
The study revealed the style which we should head into in the design stage
– Down-to-earth
– Easy to approach
– Simple minimal with a modern touch


IDEATION & DESIGN
Minimal with details and Down-to-earth
The design direction will be targeted in between complex geometric, masculine and feminine, super soft feeling. Which glittering diamond, fancy color combination, strong rigid form or super smooth, curvy round shape will be avoided.
A comfort cordial while still with a modern feeling will be the main consideration. The form direction would go into a modern, minimal look with simple surface treatment details. The colors, material and finishing will be selected carefully to avoid intense contradiction but create harmony on the product.

Ergonomic angle for all position usage
Apart from the outlook, we also need to concern about the user experience.
By understanding the using process and how the user will move the product around their face or neck, we have to put the focus on the inclined angle, size of the metal plate and also the button position.

An ergonomic facial device for user’s ultimate comfort that fit seamlessly into the brand
The brand product usually builds on a single simple geometric, such as either circle, rectangle, square and with little refined details. Therefore, the new item follows the same rule, which is designed base on a rectangular with a refinement on the edges and corners. Light silver metal and pure white low gloss color and matt finishing were selected to keep the overall comfy image.
The device comes with an inclined head that tilts a bit to the back in order to fit with the normal hand-holding gesture when using the device around their face & neck. It also equipped with only an LCD monitor and two buttons – On/off button & a switch-mode button which allows customers for easy control and understanding of the usage immediately.
